1 brat style sausage.
2 slices of natural cheddar cheese (20g each)
1 teaspoon salted butter
raw onions (optional)
mustard and ketchup for dipping (optional)
Heat 1 tsp of butter in a nonstick skillet until melted.
If using, add raw onions now and let soften
Score sausage with knife with about 5 horizontal cuts about 1/4 way through
Place sausage in pan and let it brown about 1-2 minutes. Turn frequently and do not let burn.
Place 1 slice of cheese in pan. Then place the other slice next to it and make a long strip of cheese. It will bubble quickly. Don't worry.
Watch the cheese and prepare 2 plastic spatulas.
When cheese is bubbly all over and quite brown, you're ready.
Place sausage at the end of the cheese strip. (Optional: add onions to top of sausage). Using your 2 spatulas roll the sausage in the cheese until the whole cheese strip is circled around the sausage.
Remove from pan and let cool 3-5 minutes. Cheese will turn crispy. Serve with mustard and ketchup for dipping.
For a real corndog look, use a griddle and put a wooden skewer in the sausage. Then you can roll the sausage easily and have a handle for eating!
